A6

Question: Rearrange the formula below to make y the subject.

$x = \dfrac{2ay}{3}$

NOTE: Your answer must be of the form “y=_____”.

Solution: The aim is to get $y$ on its own. Firstly, we multiply both sides by 3:

$3x = 2ay$

Then, we divide both sides by $2a$ to get

$\dfrac{3x}{2a}=y$

All the remains is just to flip this formula left to right and we get our solution:

$y=\dfrac{3x}{2a}$
