A6

Question: Rearrange the formula below to make y the subject.

x = \dfrac{2ay}{3}

NOTE: Your answer must be of the form “y=_____”.

Solution: The aim is to get y on its own. Firstly, we multiply both sides by 3:

3x = 2ay

Then, we divide both sides by 2a to get

\dfrac{3x}{2a}=y

All the remains is just to flip this formula left to right and we get our solution:

y=\dfrac{3x}{2a}
