Question: Work out the perpendicular height of the trapezium below, and use this to find its area.

(Hint: you’ll need to use Pythagoras’ theorem!)

We need to use the equation Area = \dfrac{1}{2}(a+b)\times h

Where a = 5, b=8 and h = 8

putting these into the equation gives

 Area = \dfrac{1}{2}(5+8)\times 8

Final answer = 52
