## Question: A circle has a radius of 5m. Calculate the area and circumference of the circle.

Solution: The formula for the area of a circle is $\pi r^2$. We get

$\text{area }=\pi \times 5^2=78.5\text{ m}^2\text{ (1dp)}$

The formula for the circumference is $\pi d$, where $d$ is the diameter. The diameter is twice the radius, so we get

$\text{circumference }=\pi \times 10 = 31.4\text{ m (1dp) }$
